 ENGLISH CLASS ANALYSIS AND MICRO TEACHING

Course Description

     This course is for students who need extra practice for the second stage

teacher   certificate   test   (English   micro   teaching   and   English   interview)   with

emphasis on the step-by-step approach and confidence building.

Goals of the Course

This course is designed to improve the students’ ability to  conduct English

micro-teaching   with   efficiency   and   confidence   and   to   express   their   ideas   in

English naturally and comfortably.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course it is expected that the students will be able to:

1.  present 5-minute English micro-teaching effectively and confidently

2.  provide well-organized response to English interview questions 

3.  communicate in English naturally and comfortably in the test setting

4.  manage their presentation time efficiently to meet the requirements

5.  know the areas they need to practice more

   This course focuses on the students’ practice and presentation for English 

micro-teaching and two-minute English interview. Students need to prepare and 

practice before the session and during the class, and students will practice with 

group members. After their presentation practice students will have discussion 

time for evaluation and comments. After the class students need to reflect on 

their presentations and practice more to make their next presentation better. 

Students’ active participation and strong dedication for this course are essential.

Projects and Assignments

1. Individual projects: 

1. Individual presentation practice– each student will present  short 

presentations [introduction(1 minutes), development(6 minutes)   

<presentation, practice, production>, consolidation(1 minutes)].

2. A mock mini-presentation should be presented for 5 minutes 

3. Each student will prepare and present seven two-minute presentations 

4. A mock two-minute presentation should be presented with the 

randomly chosen question from your question pools

2. Reflection Journal and Scripts: 

Each student will write a reflection journal after his/her presentation with two 

key points. Also for every session students need to write a script for their micro-

teaching and English interview practice. 

Assessment

1. Individual presentations                             70%    

1) English micro-teaching                               35%   

2) English Interview                                          35%

2. Reflection Journal writing                            20%(5% x 5)

3. Attendance and Participation                     10%

Further details of the assessment will be provided in class.

Student Feedback

    Throughout the session students are encouraged to give me good ideas and 

suggestions to make this course successful. At the end of the session the students

will be asked to evaluate this course.
